This should be seen as a last resort, and more especially since the coastal region has one of the highest rainfalls in the country. Why is Umgeni Water not finding more environmentally friendly ways of producing water? Durban has recently hosted a climate change summit. Have you learnt nothing from it? That you would propose raising the temperature of our sea, cause irreparable damage to marine life, not forgetting the CO2 emissions from the ridiculously large power required for such a plant. This together with the cost should have stopped this project dead.
The residents of the greater La Mercy area object to this plant. Go back to the drawing board and find another way!
