I have been helping my Mum research what a desalination plant is. Umgeni Water wants to build one in La Mercy where I live. Desalination is taking sea water and making it drinkable for everyone to use.
The problem is that all the remains and chemicals used will be dumped back into the sea. What will happen to the dolphins and whales that we see regularly? Also all the other sea life and our beach will suffer.
It is important that everyone, even Umgeni Water, looks after our planet because pollution and damage cannot easily be fixed. My mum says that there is too much wastage of water.
If we stop wasting water we will have enough. I believe her because she has facts and figures to prove it.
Please do not build a desalination plant. Look at other ways to save water first! Reduce, reuse and recycle!
