There was chaos in Blythedale Beach on January 1, 2015.

This “Blue flag beach” village is an ants nest of drunks, loud music, vandalism and hooligans. I have not been able to get out of my driveway since 11:00.

People are picnicking on our lawns, taxis are double parked in the street and in front of our driveways, having passengers jumping out and dancing in the street, openly consuming alcohol. Fireworks are being set off between crowds of children and vehicles. My garden wall is being used as an urinal and the one portaloo provided for the thousands of party goers has been overturned by drunks and hooligans. This is absolute chaos!

I fear for our safety and have had my friends and relatives worrying about safety and what time the chaos will end. Many locals have left the village, while others simply remain locked in their houses. If anyone should have a medical emergency, no vehicle would be able to enter and exit Blythedale within a reasonable amount of time. The SAPS have a presence but are limited as they are outnumbered and will easily be overpowered.

Kwa Dukuza municipality should seriously consider tax paying residents before allowing hordes of drunks and hooligans to enter our little village. These people do not contribute to rates and taxes yet are taking over our village with no regard or respect to the residents. I have respect and sympathy for the cleaners having the task of cleaning up the mess left behind by these hooligans.
