On December 29 my grandson of 19 months dislodged a fire extinguisher that was mounted in our room while on holiday at the La Montagne resort and it fell on his toe.
The injury to the toe was so bad that he had to undergo emergency surgery to have the damage repaired. Anyone who has ever injured a toe will tell you how painful this can be, let alone for a 19-month-old.
On arrival at Alberlito Hospital at about 8.30am we received immediate attention without even opening a file at that stage. The ER doctor on duty (a female doctor, unfortunately I don’t have her name anymore) treated us with the utmost respect and care and managed to calm my grandson. X-rays were taken and it was established that the toe was broken and he had to undergo surgery.
The whole process was explained in detail to us and we were sent to the paediatrics ward where we were met by two of the most friendly nurses I’ve ever come across. Once again the service was prompt and professional. Just after 2.30pm my grandson went into theatre to undergo surgery. Dr. Naude Kriek, the orthopaedic surgeon successfully did the procedure and I’m happy to say that the wound is healing perfectly. Big up to staff at Netcare Alberlito.
