After reading the Courier this week I thought you may be interested in some savings on water that I use daily:
* Don’t rinse dirty dishes. Clean them with kitchen paper towels.
* Use a basin in your kitchen sink. You will use far less water when washing dishes if you stack them and wash each dish separately.
* Fill your kettle when making tea or coffee then use the remainder of this hot water for washing dishes.
* Keep a small bucket in the bathroom to take the cold water from the taps before shaving/showering – this can be used for filling the kettle and/or cooking.
* A large plastic tub in the shower to stand in, like a baby bath, gives you plenty of grey water for plants.
* In the shower wet the body, switch off the water, soap up and switch on water again to rinse.
I read somewhere that if you keep the toilet free from paper, as much as possible, this saves an amazing amount of water – so ladies keep a plastic bag in a small wastepaper basket beside your toilet.
