Restaurant Review
David Hoehler reviews Eat Local restaurant in Ballito.
I’m busy eating some humble pie while I write this review because I had not expected Eat Local to be the success that it is.
Never have I been so far from the truth. Owner Hugo Palacio has breathed new life into the Ballito Village with his latest venture.
Eat Local has brought together the perfect balance of food, atmosphere and service.
Their menu has something for everyone but it is the meat selection that sets them apart. Still I was also very impressed by the seafood on offer.
I would have liked to have tried more of a selection while we were there, but I know that their portions are very healthy so we opted for only one starter to share, then a main course each.
We had the beef carpaccio. It was quality and so refreshing to see really thick slices of Parmesan cheese. I hate it when people skimp on the accompaniments.
For mains we had the prawn and chicken skewer and pork rib and calamari combo.
Both were flawless, except that the portions were very large, but that is a personal thing.
The pork was perfectly tender.
It only took the slightest pressure to remove the meat from the bone.
The chicken and prawn skewer was also done to perfection. The charcoal fires that they use really add flavour.
My favorite part had to be the flat bread that the skewer was served on. It soaked up all the juices and was just divine.
What I really love about Eat Local is how they have incorporated the service road outside as a dining area. There is nothing like enjoying a meal outside and enjoying the beautiful weather the Dolphin Coast has to offer.
The pricing wasn’t bad either considering the complete package that you get. I am sure we can all agree that eating out these days is expensive no matter how you look at it. But the question you need to ask is was it worth it and I think that Eat Local is.
