Sembcorp Siza Water public relations officer Khosi Mathenjwa replies:
Umgeni Water has recently been commissioning new works and infrastructure. We also had the Avondale reservoir reach moderately low levels twice last week which could have led to the discolouration of water.
Sembcorp Siza Water have been testing water samples at reported sites where the water was discoloured and the results indicated that the water turbidity reached class 2 levels. This means the water is still safe. We request consumers to please advise us as soon as they see a discolouration so that we can act fast to determine the cause as well as do operational work to restore the water to class 1 asap.
