Shakaskraal is a small town that has a bustling business hub. Within the community is a large mosque, grocery stores, medical practices, hardware and clothing stores that service the community.
Besides the population of +/-3000 that in Shakaskraal itself, there is a large catchment area that surrounds this community. People from Glendale, Nkobongo, Shayamoya, Etete, even people from as far as Tongaat and Maphumulo visit the town in order to trade. Residents from Ballito also frequently visit this town even to get medical services at reasonable rates and with same standard of quality as in any other areas.
In a nut-shell, Shakaskraal has more potential for growth, especially if we can capitalize on the informal traders that are trading on the road-side. We have a potential for a tourist industry, considering that places like Ballito are just a few minutes away. We can even attract tourists who visit Rain Farm etc. Good business is welcome in the community, as it will lift the standards of business and trade in the area.
Personally, I am very glad that a KFC franchise has opened up in the town. A business like that not only helps boost trade for the town, but even considering the socio-economics of the areas, one person employed-means that an entire family can get sustained. I believe that Shakaskraal has much more untapped potential when it comes to trade and business. A potential, which if tapped into, will benefit many lives.
