In the very early hours of May 1 the residents of Port Zimbali Estate, Zimbali, Seawood Estate and Hilltop were rudely awakened by extremely loud music and a DJ’s voice bidding everyone a very good morning.
After going outside our estate and down to the M4 we saw a huge audio van with the noise booming from it. We were told that it was a cycle and marathon race and that the road in and out of Ballito was closed to all traffic until 8.30am.
This is just not acceptable at all. The race is most welcome but the loud noise that it accompanied is not. Our estate was only told of this at the last hour and most of us were not prepared for the road closure and being woken up in the early hours.
To the organisers of the Deloitte KZN Challenge, I hear that this is going to be a yearly event. I sincerely hope you do your homework in future and have some respect for hundreds of sleeping residents in the area of this race.
Why was the loud music necessary when there was no visible audience?
