Like the letter writer in last week’s Courier (Water usage cut by 70%, August 14) we have, and I know many other residents have too, achieved a 70% saving in our average water usage by implementing measures as mentioned.

Although sometimes quite inconvenient, it is actually quite amazing just how much water one can save by thinking before turning on the tap.

I can add something else to the list mentioned: place a small plastic basin in your bathroom basins so when washing hands you catch that water and can re-use (for toilets etc).

Now we just need to continue praying for rain (and remembering to say thank you when it does!) to keep the JoJo tanks filled.

Lastly, in the early 1980’s when we lived in Pretoria we experienced a drought and had strict water restrictions imposed. The slogan at the time was “if it’s yellow let it mellow. If it’s brown wash it down”.
