It is with great gratitude that I write to thank the owners, management and staff of the Maidstone Country Club, for arranging and hosting the golf day and bench unveiling held on August 1.

Dave Halley, a keen golfer and resident of Ballito for many years, former teacher at Beachwood boys, and long time member of Maidstone Country club passed away recently.

A golf day in his honour was held at the course recently, and will become an annual event on their calender. I urge all who knew and played with Dave, to become a part of this competition and celebration of his life. A floating trophy will be won for nearest to the pin on second hole. This is where Dave had his coveted ‘Johnny Walker hole in one’ in 1994, and we have placed a bench commemorating him at this tee.

This year, the day was spent with a golf day and unveiling of the bench, where his friends and family gathered to remember and swap stories about our dear Dad.

Soobri Naidu and his son Ruven, captain of the club Andrew Broughton, Christie and the kitchen staff, not forgetting the golf cart driver, all went out of their way to make all of us feel so welcome, and it seemed nothing was too much trouble for any one of them.

So thank you Soobry, and everyone involved, in making it a memorable day, and a true tribute to a great golfer and a true gentleman. We look forward to joining you in years to come to celebrate the Dave Halley golf day and sit a while on the bench placed at his favourite place in all the world.

Kind regards and thanks again.
