I believe that Anwar Syed (Don’t we worship the same God?, Courier, August 14) is very confused when he tries to understand why Christians say that God is a Trinity. But as to whether we serve the same God, I think not.
Christians believe in a loving God, the living God who sees the utter sinfulness of man and yet extends His total forgiveness to him. He washed away our sins the day he shed His blood on the cross as a final sacrifice to restore ourselves to Him. This is called salvation.
The God of the Bible is the father to all Christians. He is the God who commands us to love those who hate us, turn the other cheek when we are struck on one and pray for those that persecute us.
He is the God who longs to have a personal relationship with us and invites you to believe in Him to experience the joy of salvation and the gift of eternal life. It doesn’t matter who comes to him. The prostitute, the murderer, the thief or the hateful- all are welcome into His arms because when they believe and repent, He gives them peace and eternal life.
Jesus is clear that all our good works can do nothing to give us eternal life. He offers salvation as a free gift to all who believe in Him. God cannot be bought. He does not look at how clean we make ourselves look on the outside. He is concerned about the condition of our hearts.
Ask God. He is always available to help you understand the deeper things that evade the one who does not seek truthfully.
