Of course it’s a mystery!

This question “Don’t we worship the same God?” was asked by Mr. A. Syed (Courier, August 14) and I’m pleased to see that some Ballito residents gave him many answers.

Indeed we Christians don’t serve the same God. We believe in Jesus Christ, who is the son of God. In this point we disagree already, because the Qu’ran states that Jesus was a prophet, not the son of God. (Surah 5,73): “They have certainly disbelieved who say that Allah is Christ, the son of Mary. “

But on the other hand it is quite interesting to read in the Qu’ran about a dozen times that the ‘prophet’ Jesus is called ‘the Messiah’. No other prophet is given this title. There is no further explanation given in the Qu’ran what ‘Messiah’ means, but we know that Jesus is the anointed one, He is the promised Savior. And he is the Son of God. Peter, one of Jesus disciples, said: “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16:16

Regarding the trinity of God, Jane Pons explains it very nicely in her illustration of the egg, consisting of three parts and the water (Courier, August 21). Of course it is a mystery, but if we could explain it with our human brains, He wouldn’t be God!

But I can testify, that I worship and serve a living God, who pardons sin. He sets me free from bondage and sin. And this makes him unique. He is my Savior and I experience his presence and help in my daily life.

Mr. Syed, I really appreciate that you made the effort in finding the truth by searching for the answers in the bible. My advice: don’t give up!
