I must compliment Mr Claudio Ferri on his two recent excellent letters regarding the horrific taxi accident that sadly claimed so many North Coast lives (Taxi carnage will continue if nothing is done, Courier, September 11).
He asks the same questions that so many of us are asking, but to date no (satisfactory) comments or answers from KZN government seem forthcoming. My domestic, who lives in Groutville, travels the same route daily putting her own life in the hands of those who continue to put more lives at risk by allowing such vehicles on the road.
This week, she asked me a very interesting question: “Did the SA National Taxi Council also make a contribution to the Ilembe Chamber Fund in support of those who were killed?”
My exhaustive enquiries to date have indicated that no such donation was made by this group to the fund. If this is incorrect, I apologise but if it is correct, then many of us find it abhorrently unacceptable that those responsible for allowing the condition of such vehicles to be used for public transport, do not see fit to show their support for the families of those who died so tragically!
Perhaps this gross error of judgement can be rectified by SANTACO immediately?
