I am a first time visitor to this lovely town of Ballito and took my family down to the beach on Saturday morning.
We parked near the Al Pescatore restaurant where we had enjoyed a lovely meal earlier in the week and proceeded down to the beach. To cut a long story short, we were forced to leave the tidal pool area. The behavior of beachgoers one can only describe as being of persons who are not aware of the provisions of statutory law or the consequences of contravening the same. This was clearly evident in the car park with no semblance of control by the authorities who were absent and clearly couldn’t care less. What a shame.
I did notice a few individuals dressed in green shirts trying to get a hold of things, however the lack of a presence of the local authority clearly thwarted their efforts. Well done for trying.
I come from a small coastal town in the Eastern Cape which also relies primarily on holiday trade. Let me tell you one thing, coming from a province which is historically the poorest performer in most departments, they sure know which side their bread is buttered and protect those resources that perform with the necessary vigour. Our local authority could give this local one a lesson in governance, specifically when it comes to public amenities.
This begs the question, does this local authority know what it is doing? I very much doubt it. I shall definitely not be recommending this destination to my friends.
