These youngsters spent the day at Clarke Bay beach, but their behaviour upon departure was shocking. Girls and boys stripped naked alongside the road, in full view of passing motorists, residents of Sandpiper Bay and Sak ‘n Pak Guest House. A few of the girls urinated in the road, the girl in the red shirt with her back towards the bus wasn’t wearing underpants and stood in just her shirt for close on 10 minutes.
As a regular visitor to Ballito I strongly object to this kind of behaviour and spectacle. I did phone the municipal control room to report the situation, but was informed that there were no law-enforcement officials available as they were occupied at a road block in Stanger.
Ballito has for many years been our holiday destination at least twice a year. This year, unfortunately, things seem to have gone downhill fast. Holidaymakers and owners of holiday residences play an important part in this beautiful town’s economic development and welfare. The behaviour of youngsters who do not contribute anything positive towards Ballito’s image as holiday destination can very quickly impact negatively on people’s choice of future holiday destinations.
On Saturday, December 12, on our way back from the beach, we had to step over a drunk beachgoer passed out at the top of the steps in front of Clarke Bay lifesavers’ building. Why is there no policing of public drinking and lewd behaviour?
The local authority should note that the safety and well-being of paying holidaymakers are paramount. Should the current situation regarding acceptable and law-abiding behaviour persist, Ballito’s image will be negatively affected. I, for one, will definitely choose to spend my holiday elsewhere.
I trust that this matter will be given serious consideration by the authorities.
