Having been trapped in the traffic chaos that occurred during the march that was headed up by the esteemed hierarchy of Ballito, it was a concerning situation with traffic coming off the N2 from both directions to be gridlocked. Could not help but think what would have happened if there was a serious emergency, or ambulances or fire engines needed to attend to call-outs. Be that as it may, this event has happened and left many angry people in its wake.
Having seen the support given to the event, I cannot help but wonder why the esteemed powers that be do not rally up a crowd to protest about the horrendous and inhumane conditions at the taxi rank?
I again sat stuck in Ballito Drive as taxis take it upon themselves to simply park two or three abreast in the road, again causing congestion at the robot. Strangely, not a traffic officer in sight to attend to this blatant disregard of the law! Why is this?
Washing of taxis is now a daily occurrence, and most importantly, the plight of the public who are forced to use this service that have to stand in the elements, no protection from the rain, blazing heat, wind, no water stations or anywhere to sit and a pathetic portable loo or two. My heart goes out to the elderly or the moms with young babies or toddlers. Surely this a serious and urgent matter worthy of the mayor to enthusiastically rally around?
Great to have Ballito punted as such a “Jewel of the North Coast” and fancy shopping centres and elite housing estates and we have these kinds of problems that make life unpleasant and frankly, an embarrassment for all.
So . . . when do we march on that one?
