Contrary to what is happening in our country regarding race issues, I have had a total different experience.
I’m a young black 28-year-old and today as I left work and got to my car at Westville Village Market, my car would not start, as apparently I had left something on in the car. It was amazing how I received help from every passerby, all white.
A family came and pushed my car and tried to start it. These people did not see a black girl stranded, they saw a human being who needed help. A gentleman constantly came out of the restaurant nearby, leaving his family while they were having a meal and kept checking on me.
I applaud and thank the community of Westville. Ubuntu is no Zulu word. I felt safe and realized that family is not just blood and sees no colour.
My utmost gratitude goes to them.
