LETTER: End the violent protests in all wards

I, Simon Gumede of Driefontein, would like to speak about the violent protests all around the municipal wards. It seems the idea of having ward councilors is not helping the community as a whole. My solution to these protests is not to have councilors but rather elect chiefs from the communities and let the mayor have full control of all the wards. I think the old method will work and it will let the protests subside.
The councilors are not helping in any way they are just taking their pay cheque and having a good time while the people are suffering.
The burning of schools, halls and damages to the roads did not happen when the chiefs were in control of the area. Another solution is for the mayor to interact with the chief and resolve problems as soon as possible.
Also meetings should take place every three months to inform the people of projects to be done for each ward.
Tell the people how the money would be spent through each year by informing the people they will understand and control all violent actions. I am sure the mindset of the people will change and all can live peacefully.
