LETTERS: Drop the pen and pick up a brush

Bruce, we are all getting older and a lot of us are at or have passed the stage that you seem to have reached where you are wondering if there is a second career (Two Bits, May 20).
Well I found out there is and it involves one of the possibilities you raised in your column – art. I had always been interested in art and dabbled a little along the way but I never realised that there was another persona in me and quite a talented one at that. If I look at the work I am now producing, I ask myself whether I followed the right career (civil engineering).
There are plenty of kind people who are prepared to help novices so why not give it a go? It is very relaxing, time consuming, challenging and of course, rewarding. I paint in oils because it is the easiest medium in my opinion and I would recommend you do so too. Come on Bruce – as a writer there is a strong creative streak in you. You must just drop the pen and pick up the brush.
