Response to the letter in The North Coast Courier dated June 17, “Give the newbie a chance”.
It is very true that we need a councillor who is available, informed and connected with the people they represent.
Someone who is able to table the concerns of the community at council with boldness and grit. It’s time the community of Ballito take notice of ACDP councilor Nel Sewraj, who has been the lone voice in council at times, objecting to various issues that have gone against the protocol and procedures of council.
Councilor Sewraj has been challenged in the media for his controversial stance against public funds being used for the pro-Palestine march and most recently his objection to the irregularities in procedures for the new Stanger Mall.
During his five years serving in council he has proven himself to be a man of integrity and one who is willing to go against the status quo to ensure that corruption does not prevail.
It is with this in mind, that I believe he has been tried and tested and should be given the opportunity to represent the community of Ballito as the ward councilor. Instead of going for a “newbie” the community should consider trusting a man who has proven his worth in serving those he represents with a uncompromising stance and with integrity.
