LETTERS: Beware gate motor conman

A Ballito woman was conned out of R4100.

Please make readers of The Courier aware that we have a new conman in our midst.
I like to support Ballito businesses when I can, so when my gate was needing repair I saw an advertisement for (name supplied) and telephoned him. He recommended a new motor, but as he was just starting out asked that I pay for the motor in advance and he would buy and collect and bring it to us for fitting by him.
I paid R4100 into his account and since then cannot get any joy. At first it was excuses, now he just does not answer any phone calls or emails.
I went to the police to lay a charge and was told they could not accept it as it was a civil matter – an agreement between him and me – so unless I go to a lawyer, which will cost me more money, he is free to move on to his next sucker customer and con them. He can make a living out of this kind of con. He drives a dark blue Fiat or Golf.
It has since come to my notice that he has also conned other people in our area.
