LETTERS: Blue lights a licence for lawless behaviour?

On two occasions, June 5 and June 10, 2016, I was travelling along the N2 in a northerly direction. North of the Umhlali off-ramp a blue-light motorcade approached from the rear. They were accompanied by police on NDM registered motorcycles.
I was forced into the emergency lane by them. One of the vehicles in the motorcade was registered ZK-2.
In the June 10 instance, the police official went so far as to slow down  and point at me with his finger, indicating that I should get out of the way. Two of the registration numbers on this occasion were NDM 15253 and NDM 15256. Another motorist, with vehicle registration SAVAGE ZN was also pushed off the road on this occasion.
I reported this to the Durban Metro Police on  June 22. I was contacted by the DMP and an appointment was scheduled by the Metro police official to meet me as to discuss my complaint. On the day, no one showed up.
Upon enquiry, I was told that my complaint had been referred to a Metro police superintendent, who would contact me. I have not been contacted.
Clearly the principle of “leading by example” is not applicable to certain law enforcement officials.
Road users are obligated by law to adhere to the legislation and rules, pertaining to driving on public roads. We should drive in a fashion which does not endanger other road users and always drive in a courteous fashion. Yet the very same officials who are responsible for enforcing the law are the ones who are driving in an irresponsible fashion, endangering the civilians they are supposed to protect.
It seems to me that a uniform and a blue light seems to be an excuse for lawless behaviour.
