LETTERS: Another sickening story of cruelty

How concerned I am to once again read, in the Courier, of the dreadful suffering and ultimate death of another pet in Ballito.
My heart goes out to the Venter family. The pain and suffering of your cat Bobby has touched my heart, and prompted me to write this letter, which is long overdue. As an animal lover I share your grief.
There are many incidents of abuse to animals in our area that just seem to get wiped under the carpet.
A while ago, I read of the death of a small duiker that was rescued from a vicious dog attack by two brave ladies who were walking early in the morning in Patricia Drive.
Desperate to get the duiker to a vet as fast as possible, they approached a man who was sitting in his car. They pleaded with him to drive them to the veterinary clinic but he refused, saying that he had just returned from work. The duiker died! This selfish individual could have made such a difference, and set such a good example, but he chose to turn his back. How sad, when our wildlife is doomed.
There was also a case of the poisoning of a cat in one of the complexes in Ballito. What an agonizing death, and what a disgusting thing to do.
Then, there was the case of the poisoning of a German Shepherd in our town, which enjoyed a lot of media attention. I waited with bated breath for the law to stand firm and protect the rights of animals, but sadly, the case went cold! What happened? Wake up Ballito! Surely we have the right to know what the outcome of that case of was.
In the article about the death of Bobby I read of a neighbour of Mrs Cossey threatening to poison her cats if they defecated in her garden. How small minded and mean you are. How cruel to threaten the pets of a woman who spends her life and her hard earned money, trying to save the lives of unwanted and abandoned cats!
Surf YouTube and you see nothing but cruelty to animals on a scale that I never imagined possible. Dog and cat meat festivals, canned lion hunting and many other heartbreaking acts, but when it happens close to home, it is even more disturbing. Is it not from this demented cruel world our youth are trying to escape?
