LETTERS: Thank you for the support

It is with great pleasure that I thank the voters of Ward 58 eThekwini, for giving us their support to win this ward.
Our team of DA activists and supporters have worked extremely hard for many months, and I also thank them for their dedication and tenacity. Even when things got tough, they kept going. Ward 58, together with wards 61 and 106 are all now DA. This means Verulam and much of Tongaat has become DA territory.
Ward 58 consists of many towns and settlements surrounding King Shaka International Airport. They are Umdloti, Lungelani, La Mercy, Pholani, Desainagar, Seatides, Thuthukani, Casuarina, Westbrook, Westbrook Beach, Magwaveni, Tongaat – Victoria, Tongaat – Flambel, Canelands, Waterloo – Phase 6, Hammonds Farm and Mt Moreland.
The DA has increased its councillors from 45 to 61, which makes us the only party to grow in the municipality. With more public representatives we will be able to better serve the public.
One of my first duties will be to have the housing allocation audited, which will cause a small fuss if we discover people have more than one RDP or council home! At the same time, I will be investigating the refuse collection contracts, as we all notice how much litter is strewn about various settlements.
