My son Justin is 21. At 16 he underwent a hip operation. Because of this he cannot hold a full time job. He works part time as a bartender/waiter
On July 3 he worked for a local restaurant for a SABC TV function.
Justin and another waitress served a TV presenter named Nomfundo. She left them each R1200.
To make sure they got that money, she first called for the manager and told her to make sure they got their money. The manager gave her word that they would get that money at the end of their shift.
But at the end of the shift the manager didn’t give them their money telling them to come back the following day.
And so the chase began from day to day leading to a week. Then being told it would be paid at month end.
Justin waited.
At the end of the month they, both went to pick up their money. When they got there, they were received with a very different reception. The general manager told them both that the R2400 belongs to the restaurant and they were not getting even one Rand from them. She told them to leave. Justin was so disappointed. I sent an email to them telling them I would go public if they didn’t give them that money, I got no reply, so I sent a letter to The North Coast Courier and reporter, Erica Abrahams contacted me. We corresponded for a while
I made an appointment for my son with her. They spoke and Justin told her everything that had happened. He also had to find the TV lady via the internet. Erica contacted the restaurant and advised them to pay back the money. The following day the general manager herself called Justin and told him to come pick up his money as they could not afford bad publicity and also that they will never work there again. Shame on you for trying to steal their money and then threaten them. You should be ashamed of yourself! To Erica Abrahams, I just want to say thank you, they would never have gotten back their tip if not for you. Well I am telling the world anyway about what you did.
I hope you take this as a lesson learnt! Don’t steal from the poor!
