LETTERS: I was truly devastated

I was truly devastated to hear about another incident of extreme animal cruelty, little Bobby, a beloved cat, this time so close to home! (Courier, August 5).
I was however happy to read the comments that so many people made. It’s nice to know that there are many people in this small town of ours who are avid animal lovers.
It pains me to see so many posters up for once-loved pets that are now “looking for a new home”, due to the fact that their owners are “relocating, or “moving into a secure complex”. Obviously these people have different priorities in life. But I also lay the blame on the developments, complexes and estates themselves. How much harder are they making it for residents to own and enjoy their pets with all their stringent rules and regulations?
On a positive note however, the immigration laws of most countries have now finally made it so much easier to take your pets with you. For those who care.
Your pets might not mean much to you, but to them, you are their world. They want to be seen as a part of your family, as a part of the “pack”. And we need to realise that animals DO count. They DO matter. They DO feel. They are also a part of God’s beautiful and awesome creation.
We might not be able to save all the dogs and cats and other animals in this world, but for that one dog, cat or animal that we do save, it makes all the difference. Let’s teach our kids how to love and let’s change the world one small step at a time.
