LETTERS: Ballito commuters need a bridge

Much has been written in your publication about planned developments in Ballito and at times some articles solicit strong responses from readers. The new taxi rank being a good example.
My personal view is that such a facility is long overdue and commuters to our town deserve nothing less. Sadly, whilst much has been tabled around the topics of a new taxi rank and an expanded shopping mall across the road there has been no mention made of a connecting bridge or underpass for the travellers who wish to reach the taxi rank and vice-versa.
Already I believe a critical situation exists as passengers cross the main road separating the Lifestyle Centre from the taxi rank. Think of the poor souls running that gauntlet twice a day, with groceries in hand and also at times with young children.
As the number of employees in the area increases, as it will over the short term with the opening of the new mall, this dangerous situation is likely to escalate to mayhem if no means is provided to facilitate the safe crossing of Ballito Drive. I for one would not be a proud resident of this town if the main arterial into Ballito became known as `death strip`.
So, council, developers, builders, business owners, tenants, employers et al and all who will profit from an expanded business environment and local economy, please do your bit to ensure a suitable, safe facility is provided. A holistic approach can be strongly recommended.
