I have to complain about the quality of service we are receiving from Multichoice. There is absolutely no choice available. The same programmes are shown ad nauseum on all the channels.
I am at home for most of the day as is my elderly mother who cannot do much else than watch TV. We see the same documentaries, films and series every day. There does not even seem to be a gap in the time-line. These are episodes of series and or films we have seen years ago and now we are shown them again. Series move from one channel to the next under the guise of being “new” but that only means “new to the particular channel”.
Multichoice has not bought any new films or series in a long while and yet we pay a fortune to watch the pathetic things on offer. I feel insulted when I am presented with an episode I watched the previous day or week. The episodes are recycled and even jumbled so that one sees episodes with characters who have left the series. Multichoice (DSTV) treats its viewers as if we are morons. Age restrictions are set on shows which are quiz shows and which would be beneficial for younger people to watch. The Smile channel is never advertised on the menu so one has to click on it to see what is currently on.
In a letter I wrote to Multichoice a while ago, I was told that it is impossible for viewers to select only the channels they wish to view. This is erroneous. I have lived abroad and selected channels from two or three service providers. I paid only for those channels and only one satellite dish was required in the building.
I think we face this problem because there is no competition and Multichoice has the monopoly. Please will someone introduce a rival company. Perhaps then viewing and choices will improve. At the moment we have a no-choice, not a Multichoice.
It is argued that I could opt for the cheaper packages but I prefer to watch BBC programmes as that is my choice. I think I watch only about 10 channels of all those on offer. We should all boycott Multichoice and force a change. Enough is enough!
