LETTERS: It’s time to snap out of it

The recent incident in which two white farmers allegedly assaulted and threatened to bury alive a black farm worker should be viewed by all of us with unrestrained contempt. Disappointingly, our country seems to be lurching from one racial disaster to the next. It resembles a vicious cycle of some sort.
With the Hindus (and Indians in general) being challenged recently to go back to the “backwoods of India”, black beachgoers being labelled as “cute monkeys”, and black university workers being fed urine at the University of the Orange Free State, one has to seriously question the grounds on which we as a nation are attempting to build this so-called Rainbow Nation. We have now entered a new atrocious phase in which human beings, by virtue of being black (and therefore suspect), must be forced into coffins and buried alive!
I sometimes feel sad for some of our white brothers and sisters. They are obviously struggling to adjust to the new era of a just, democratic, non-racial and non-sexist society. They are firmly stuck in the fallacious mentality of white supremacy, which was cleverly crafted (or fabricated) and inculcated in their gullible psyches by an evil and ruthless apartheid regime. Just a word of reminder for any person out there who still flounders amidst the malodorous relics of our deeply divided and undesirable past: You are not superior. All human beings are equal. They bleed the same blood!
The mentality inculcated in you, shallow racist, was nothing but a myth, designed solely to allow you and your ilk to amass untold riches at the expense of other human beings. But now it’s time to snap out of it. Nobody deserves sub-standard treatment. Learn to treat others with respect and uphold human dignity.
