LETTERS: Where are the traffic cops?

As I type I feel sick, sick in body and spirit!
The news came through this (terrible) Monday morning November 21, that lives have again been lost in taxi accidents, and not forgetting the innocent commuters who have died or been seriously injured and whose lives and those of their families may have changed drastically from now on.
Just recently there was a disastrous accident involving a child walking and being hit by a vehicle….and so it goes on and on.
The latest accident took place exactly where we were trying to cross the road, from Ballito Drive with traffic zooming along the R102, trying to get onto the R102 to travel to Umhlali.
At that intersection there were huge holes in the ground, not potholes, but holes to badly damage your tyres. The stop sign there is totally inadequate as there is a “blind spot’ where you are unable to see the traffic until it is virtually at the intersection, and then those driving at a speed (as this apparently was the case), and if you were turning into the R102 you stood a pretty good chance of being hit by the speeding vehicle.
This is right outside the entrance to the Manors Estate.
Why has no robot been erected to control traffic at this crucial point?
Why are the roads in the state that they are in?
Where is law enforcement?
What is going to happen as road traffic increases on Ballito roads when the new shopping centre opens that will attract people from far and wide?
How many more lives must be lost before action is taken in arresting those committing criminal acts of defying the law of the road and endangering lives?
Why are there no law enforcement police to be seen in known trouble spots, doing their job? (For a start, try the taxi rank where they are parked three abreast).
Could the powers that be please respond via the newspaper, so that we frustrated Ballito inhabitants are given answers to help us understand what is going on?
