LETTERS: Zuma’s transparent attempt to shift blame

The astonishing comments attributed to Zuma in his recent speech to ANC cadres at the KwaDukuza town hall cannot be attributed to naivety or political astuteness but rather a disingenuous attempt to further pull the wool over the eyes of his gullible followers (“ANC is under attack, says Zuma”, Courier November 25).
He refers to ‘these people – I forget their names, have the economic power to buy people in the ANC to turn their backs against the party.’ And he cannot remember their names? He further cautions for the requirement to be ‘careful of those people, who are paid by (some other) people against the economic power of South Africa’. Presumably he forgot their names as well.
In addition, Zuma accused the ‘Western countries of going against the ANC because of its close ties with Russia and China through BRICS’.
Zuma finally concludes by saying ‘so those who are saying I must resign, they are following an instruction from the people who paid them’.
The recent calls for Zuma’s resignation had nothing to do with some vague conspiratorial attempt by unnamed ‘people and Western powers’ to undermine the ANC because of its association with the perceived economic strength of BRICS. It has everything to do with Zuma’s abuse of power, the numerous outstanding charges of fraud and corruption, his attempts to undermine the constitution and leadership failure.
Zuma was effectively spraying Doom into the eyes of his audience in the hopes of portraying himself as the victim in this unsavoury episode of our history.
