Letters: Great improvements to Salt Rock road

It has been wonderful to see the road improvements at the Salt Rock N2 interchange, and the road is a pleasure to drive on.
I am surprised that the contractor has not been given the approval to go down into Umhlali village and repair the road all the way to the R102. The Umhlali circle is a nightmare (preplanning needs to be considered, do we need the circle?) and yes, I am aware that the potholes on the north side of the circle have been “patched up”, but no effort has been made to repair the very large potholes on the south and west side of the circle. Such shocking training given to the staff that manage the repairs!
Just a couple of issues supporting the proper upgrade of the Salt Rock Road from the N2 – R102:
· Main access road to and from Shakakraal
· Access road to and from the new Peaking Power Plant – where fuel tankers will move fuel each day, on average 34 tankers moving on this road daily (The DFA hearing in 2008 stated that a new off -ramp from the N2 through the animal farm would have to be constructed. This has not been done)
· Access road to and from Umhlali Prep – this school has over 1050 children, no longer a country school.
· Access road where pedestrians, taxis, buses, trucks, cars etc. are trying to manoeuvre around the circle.
· Peak times (morning, lunchtime and evening) both ways
I am so tired of hearing that the issues can’t be addressed as nobody is listening, is it time for me to stand in the street with my banner and peaceful protest. I am a taxpayer, a ratepayer and love the North Coast.
