Letters: Always willing to help

We had a poacher destroying the fish and bird life on the lake in front of the Pondokkie.
The man was stringing gill nets right across the lake and catching not only all the fish, but also the cormorants etc that nest on the little island.
For a year, we phoned the police and various conservation people. No one did anything. Then someone suggested asking Quentin to help.
What a difference! Quentin showed immediate interest. Although it was a Friday night when we called, he was there, with his family, on Saturday morning. He assessed the situation and then went on to fulfil other obligations.
On Sunday, he was back with a boat and traversed the lake looking for the net. Nothing. The poacher must have been warned that the rescue vehicle was looking for him. Since then we have not seen any sign of the poacher. It’s been a few months now. We just hope the cormorants start nesting here again. Not one was spared.
What enthusiasm and effective action we witnessed. In this day and age of “I’m alright, Jack” the Power boys stand out as modern day knights in shining armour.
Mom and Dad Power, you did something so right. Suggest we clone this son of yours!
