Letters: Open sewage is not acceptable

We were previously advised that the leak of sewage from the septic tank on council property adjacent to the temporary taxi rank was directly due to an illegal connection made by municipal personnel into a septic tank owned by KDM at the Information Centre.
The situation with sewage flowing across the road and possibly down into the Ballito Bay Mall parking area is totally unacceptable. Perhaps the senior council officials are used to this open sewage on their own properties but this is occurring in a community that pays the vast majority of the KDM area municipal rates.
Do we really have to try, wearing latex gloves of course, to collect some samples of this sewage and visit the mayor and the municipal manager and pour it over them, or can the DA, the North Coast Courier, and DOCRRA officially inform and complain to the SA Branch of the WHO (World Health Organisation) about the absolute negligence of the KwaDukuza municipality to rectify this matter in a civilised manner immediately.
I also assume that there is a bye-law that prevents illegal connections such as this ongoing mess, and also a bye-law which prevents the discharge of sewage on to the grass and roads in public areas. Can the DA please implement those bye-laws legally through the police and the courts, if necessary, and have the culprits arrested and charged.
