Letters: Developing surfing for all

The developmental component of the sport of surfing has been an integral part of the Ballito Pro Presented by Billabong and is very much a priority for the event and KwaDukuza Council, to create opportunities for local children, especially those from previously disadvantaged areas, to develop within the sport of surfing and in addition the foundation of learning to swim.
It is very important that we are able to utilise the Ballito Pro presented by Billabong as a platform to develop local talent within the region, in order for them to progress in the sport and evolve to represent the region at national and even international events.
The Ballito Pro presented by Billabong aims to utilise our resources to assist, facilitate and create a legacy for our region and the sport. We are very excited with the establishment of the Ilembe Surf Riders, we laud all people both local business, surf industry, Surfing SA and the KwaDukuza municipal council for coming together in partnership to ensure that we create this legacy for our younger generation and develop the sport for the region and South Africa as a whole.
The Ballito Pro presented by Billabong will support ILembe Surf Riders in order to create awareness and also through the event, to raise funds to support the sustainability of their programmes. It is only through public private partnerships that we can work together to successfully achieve our aims and goals.
