Letters: The masses are being manipulated

The rhetoric within the ANC (radical economic transformation) is a sad state of affairs that the present uninformed leadership wishes to use as a tool to hold onto power. The political dynamic of Africa and South Africa is purely based on harnessing the ignorance of the youth with false promises, militancy and propaganda.
The action that played out at the opening of the Ballito Mall is one such mass manipulation. The fact of the matter is that the “Honourable” Mayor of KwaDukuza paraded around the development praising the investment just a few weeks before he changed position for the Youth League. The mere fact that buses were used to bus in crowds is symbolic of an organ grasping at straws.
The regional secretary of the Youth League is also an employee of the municipality who works in the supply chain department. There is a lot that happens there. Incidentally, the Mayor has requested a new department be created for youth development which he wishes to chair at council level. The request includes a post for a director and funding for projects. It is rumoured that the position of director is earmarked for a political deployee who will ensure the Mayor’s retention of power.
Sadly, the common people who want to get on with life become victims of these sick politics.
The time has come for South Africans to transform their votes into action. Hooliganism, political dumbness and greed must never be the reason that the masses become victims to cowards. Those that hide behind an aborted system of transformation of this country while using the masses, feeding them half truths dashed with a lot of liquor, must never win. South African politics is about the powers-that-be amassing ill-gotten money at the fastest pace ever.
It’s time for stronger civic movements, non-aligned civil rights movements that are once more prepared to sacrifice the ultimate for a better future. We are not cowards and we are not ignorant, Mr Mayor. It is time for a few like-minded people to gather so that the spirit of Madiba can be put back into motion and freeloaders be shown how to earn their sweat. Right now, KwaDukuza with its political leadership, including the DA, has had it too cosy.
Residents pay for useless services, to be stoned when we visit a mall, to be robbed in our homes while these elected representatives are afraid of those that elected them, so they parade with bodyguards while we suffer. Look at the cost of your utility bills – it amounts to more than what you pay for food. Is this what we live for? These utilities are loaded with costs so political heads can enjoy X5s with bodyguards and create political deployment positions for their friends. It’s time to stop.
It’s time to make your vote count so those that take political seats know that there are also prison cells for corrupt and inept politicians. Earn your personalised number plate. I guess you know who you are. We have been imprisoned for too long by ideological garbage. It is time to be liberated from political capitalists who feed of the blood of the poor and downtrodden.
The journey begins.
