Letters: Taxi violence out of control

Yet another chairman of the Dolphin Coast Taxi Association was gunned down last week by men carrying AK 47s. I am not going to hold my breath for an arrest – none yet for any taxi-related violence or murder in the area. Robert Stephen was a long-standing member of the Association, also member of the committee. What a nice man he was, always ready to help where he could.
For years I tried to bring back a bus service to the Dolphin Coast, mainly to help mothers get their kids to school safely and affordably. We failed, and now the taxi industry has a monopoly on transport – never a healthy situation. Promises by the then MEC for Transport, now our Premier, Hon Willies Mchunu in 2015 that he had the situation under control were just empty words. To lose 3 leaders of one association in 12 months demonstrates a problem, Premier.
My condolences go to his family, association and friends as they mourn their loss.
