In the letter “Is dump causing smell?” (Courier, June 2), we read the note from the editor that expressed a personal opinion and a suspicion as stated in the comment “I suspect PG may be getting a whiff of Mandeni fragrance from the Sappi paper mill. But we will ask”.
This comment unfortunately puts Sappi in a bad light and ignores the dump site that is being referred to by the reader. Sappi Tugela Mill is an ISO 14001 certified mill that adheres to legal environmental standards and is licensed to operate. As a corporate citizen and an employer of communities in the greater Mandeni area, we would appreciate balanced and factual reporting on issues that affect the community.
