Letter: Steers staff exemplary

To the lady manager of Steers and the staff, I am extremely grateful and you showed there are still good and honest people in our community

I flew back from Canada and took the Greyhound bus to Ballito from Johannesburg.

I was visiting family in Ballito before returning to Port Shepstone. The bus arrived in Ballito at 9 pm in the evening.

Whilst waiting to be collected at the Shell Garage, I sat at an outside table at the Steers Restaurant.

When my family arrived to collect me we loaded my luggage and proceeded to their home. A while later I realised that I did not have my zip bag with my credit cards, drivers licence, passport and various other things including about R350.

I thought I must have left it on the bus and spent several hours contacting Greyhound who contacted the bus but found nothing. We also went to Steers by which time they had closed and there was no sign of the bag.

At 8 am the next morning the manager at Steers called me to say she had my bag which the staff had seen when closing up. She found the phone number in the bag.

The contents were all intact including the cash and I was considerably relieved to collect it.

To the lady manager of Steers and the staff, I am extremely grateful and you showed there are still good and honest people in our community.

As a pensioner, I rewarded them to the best of my ability.

I record my thanks to them.

P.J.VAN NIEKERK, Port Shepstone
