A potentially disastrous event for me last Saturday afternoon had a happy ending when Hlanganani Dladla, a CPA security officer at the Ballito Junction regional mall, found my manbag containing my wallet, cell phone and Kindle reader in a trolley in the car park on level 4 and handed it in with none of the contents missing.
My partner Karen Bonsall and I had been shopping at the mall and when I packed our purchases into the boot of our car, I obviously forgot to take my bag out of the trolley.
On arriving home in Palm Lakes, I realised my bag, with virtually my whole life in it, was missing.
We immediately drove back to Ballito, calling the security control room en route.
Karen spoke to Nkanyiso Buthelezi in the control room and then to Alan Pillay, the CPA security manager, who told her my bag had been found and was waiting to be collected. You can imagine my relief and gratitude!
Alan called Hlanganani to the office and we were able to thank and reward him for his honesty.
Security at the Ballito Mall has come under fire recently, but in my case a stressful situation was calmly and professionally handled.
