Letter: There are still good people

Thank you to the honest person who chose to do the right thing.

We live in constant awareness of “pasop”.

Beware of potholes, beware of speed humps, beware of hi-jacking, beware of monkeys, beware of low flying aircraft, beware of remote jamming, beware of burglars, switch on your alarm, lock your doors . . . put on sunblock . . . global warming . . ISIS. . .” The list goes on and on.

Amidst all this, there are still a lot of good people.

Last Thursday, in my haste to fetch something from the hardware shop, I left the tailgate of my bakkie open and drove as fast as the “beware of speed traps” would allow me.

To my horror I discovered that my orange crate containing some valuable tools, fell off somewhere along the way.

I retraced my tracks and to my surprise and delight I found the crate standing on the sidewalk opposite the Engen garage, with all the contents neatly in place.

Thank you to the honest person who chose to do the right thing. You made me appreciate my fellow man so much. I hope I, or someone, can one day return the favour.
