I met an inspiring young man, S’Fiso Mtshali about four years ago whilst doing my daily evening feral cat feeding at the Sangweni Tourism Centre. He works there as a security guard, is extremely well mannered, intelligent and motivated.
It was fantastic to hear that this young man was studying in his own time to become a teacher. He had to endure the challenge of working night shifts and writing exams the next day. He did this for three years, battling all on his own.
S’fiso was brought up by his late grandmother, with no other family support, yet persevered through it all and attained his Bachelor of Education (Intermediate and Senior Phase) degree last year.
He has also registered with SACE (South African Council for Educators), yet a year later has been unable to find employment within the education system. I find this extremely strange that in a province where there is an education crisis and a claim of some 14 000 “unqualified tS’fiso was brought up by his late grandmother, with no other family support, yet persevered through it all and attained his Bachelor of Education (Intermediate and Senior Phase) degree last year.eachers” employed.
Is there anyone out there who would be prepared to assist him? I hear former Model C Schools are going to be introducing Zulu as a subject. Would any local school governing body be keen to employ him as a Zulu teacher?
