It looks like pay parking will become a reality as from Wednesday November 1, and that parking in designated areas will be R6 an hour and that about 50 parking marshals will be employed.
I presume that R6 an hour means R6 for an hour or part thereof?
I, like hundreds of others, have a post box at the Umhlali Post Office and check my post at least three times a week. The time to get from my car, check for post and get back is no longer than 30 seconds.
Should a marshal be standing outside the Post Office does this mean I will get a ticket and have to pay R6? I would like to think that sanity will prevail and that I can tell the Marshal I am just going to ‘quickly’ check my post, that he will be reasonable and not issue a ticket for 30 seconds of parking!
I believe that tolerance and understanding on the part of the marshals is going to be a key factor in places like the Umhlali Post Office, otherwise the new ‘rage’ could be ‘parking rage’ to add to ‘road rage’.
I sincerely hope that the new marshals are going to be trained to be fair, reasonable and tolerant.
