It is increasingly disturbing to find that employees are being evicted from bakkies in Shakaskraal in the mornings.
Many small businesses’ in the Dolphin Coast provide transport as part of the employees’ terms of employment.
Over the last month, our bakkies are being stopped by taxi owners or their designated staff and the driver is only allowed to proceed once all employees in the bin are removed.
They apparently have to use taxis to get from Shakaskraal to Ballito!
This enforcement by taxi operators is not only undemocratic but also illegal.
Surely, people are entitled to decide for themselves if they wish to use trains, taxis or employee provided transport or even walk. Who gave these operators the power to act as policemen?
Why are the police doing nothing about this – is it because, as we are all aware, a number of police officers also own taxis?
It would be interesting to hear if other companies are having similar experiences and a comment from our police would also be welcome.
