Letter: Aquaplaning on N2

I travel daily on the N2 toll road and I have witnessed vehicles going off the road near the Umdloti River bridge.

The right-hand lane on the north-bound section of the road, just as you cross the Umdloti River bridge, has a pool of water on rainy days and vehicles are aquaplaning off the road.

I witnessed a vehicle lose control and land up on the south bound lane, hitting a vehicle head on.

If you go there today (last Thursday) you will notice a vehicle has a hit a lamp post and damaged a steel barrier with vehicle parts strewn all over the grass verge.

I know of one fatality due to a vehicle going off the road in this area.

I emailed the Road Engineer at SANRAL but did not get an acknowledgement. I am sure a large number of drivers have experienced going off the road at this spot.

I am hoping that this letter will put pressure on the road authority to resurface the area and avoid water collection on rainy days.

I urge drivers who have had accidents on this spot on rainy days to write to the Courier to put pressure on the roads authority.
