My wife recently parked in the underground section of Ballito Junction. She had purchased a large number of items from various stores and placed them in the trunk of her car.
When she tried to lock the vehicle with a remote control, she was unable to do so. Suspecting potential ‘remote jammers’ she remained at the vehicle until such time as she was successfully able to lock the car.
My wife was a victim of a similar theft at Springfield Park a few months ago when thieves managed to access the vehicle in this manner and remove a laptop from the car. The police advised her that this is becoming an increasingly common occurrence.
I suggest that shoppers be very vigilant, particularly at this time of year. Check the car is physically locked when activating the remote locking device.
I also urge the management of Ballito Junction to provide better security in their parking lots because this centre has been subjected to numerous incidents of crime – much of which has been unreported.
