Lol’s restaurant in Main Road Chaka’s Rock has a live band on Saturdays when there is rugby.
They used to have a live band playing during the week at night also. My neighbours and I have complained to the police, our DA representative and everyone recommended to us – to no avail.
The municipality told me long ago that in order to have a live band playing in a restaurant the owners must soundproof the place.
The restaurant is completely open so the noise is horrific.
Last Saturday the band was so loud we could not hear ourselves speak on our deck and had to go indoors. This also happened on October 7 at my birthday and the music was so loud they drowned us out.
How can anyone be allowed to open a restaurant in a residential area and then make such a racket and get away with it? According to the municipality they only have a licence to operate a restaurant. If they want to have a live band they must have a licence for it.
This happens all the time and is not on.

We are a family restaurant that provides employment for on average 42 locals. These staff are a happy and friendly bunch of locals who are known to all our patrons that love and enjoy being served by them. We have developed a strong local customer base from neighbours, the locals who are extremely happy and supportive of our restaurant. In fact, we have received some fantastic comments like “This is the style of family restaurant the North Coast has needed for ages”.
The accusation that we have a live band playing there on Saturdays when there is rugby is false and not entirely the truth. We have a band playing on the first Saturday of every month. We do have live entertainment from time to time but we do not let music go longer than 10pm.
Surely trying to involve the DA is not the right way to go about this. The DA or any party should not get involved in the matter of an unhappy neighbour. The governing parties are there to handle much bigger situations.
I find the comment that we should soundproof the building very entertaining considering there are night clubs in Ballito, Salt Rock etc and they don’t have soundproof rooms.
The accusation that she could not hear herself speak is definitely a complete exaggeration as our restaurant was full of patrons with their children and even a new born. So if the music was so loud that one could not here them self’s speak why would they come eat in our restaurant?
On the point of being drowned out on October 7, how do you define loud? Surely you need a meter to measure this. We had the DB’s measured by the authorities and the readings were way in the acceptable range of 66db. This is a commercial property and we have all the necessary licences.
The permanent residents from Pentire Point, Chakas Cove and Impala Road support our restaurant and don’t complain, in fact they are very supportive of the live events. Unfortunately the North Coast is developing and more places will open up and this may not suit everyone, if you so unhappy maybe you should look for a new town that is quiet like it may have been 30 years ago.
I want to place it on record that we are going to proceed to take legal actions of harassment against you should you continue.
