It’s amazing how time flies. I wanted to go do a review on somewhere that I haven’t been to in a few years and with all the new dining options now in town it’s always important to remember the guys that have been here for a while.
Gianni’s opened their doors six years ago in the Ballito village. The last time I was there was around four years ago.
The stunning views overlooking Salmon Bay is hard to beat. The décor has changed since I was last there and is beautiful.
The menu is predominantly Italian. For our meal my wife ordered the Snails and Melanzane as her mains and I had the fillet steak.
The Melanzane was outstanding, the portion size more than adequate. The eggplant was fresh the cheese and sauce didn’t overpower the dish – a marriage made in heaven. The snails were well executed.
The steak was cooked to order and was tender, coming with Gianni’s homemade black pepper, brandy and fig sauce.
The sauce was a new combination for me. I wasn’t that much of a fan of it but that is a very personal opinion. I know many people will find it a perfect pairing for fillet.
For desserts we had the chocolate volcano. They did a fine job on this dessert, the outside cooked perfectly and the centre was gooey and decadent.
The service was good, our waiter being friendly and attentive.
The manager on duty checked on us a few times which is the way it should be.
Gianni’s is by no means a fancy establishment but is cozy and ideal for the family for a special dinner with your partner.
