Letter of the week: Marketing to 5-year-olds at school is not on

I certainly will not support it and would advise all my class Moms to avoid it as well.

I’m not a fan of advertising at schools but it seems a poster is acceptable and I trust the school to decide what they allow.

Rugby tots, Edu junior builders and Gekotrix seem to be some of the concepts accepted. Parents can look at the poster and make a choice. After all, they’ll be paying for it.

I do however object to personally and physically marketing the concept to a five-year-old child in the school! Promises of T shirts and tog bags and trophies! Really!

Parents are already under financial pressure with back to school costs. To add emotional pressure is so wrong on all levels.

Thankfully my child can be reasoned with and understands that they can’t do or have everything like other kids but it’s not always the case with most children. Peer pressure should not be advantageous to any business. Parents are under enough stress! Why add to it with this?

I certainly will not support it and would advise all my class Moms to avoid it as well.

Just my opinion.
